Static Door Codes for Properties Without a Connected Lock

If a property doesn’t have a lock GuestsKey can control — a keypad we don’t integrate with, a lockbox, a building entry code — you can still give guests the portal experience by setting a static door code on the property. Guests get the same page with their code, WiFi, and check-in instructions.

You program the lock; GuestsKey stores and delivers the code

This is the important part. GuestsKey does not put a static code onto your lock. You set the code on the physical lock yourself, then type that same code into GuestsKey so it can show it to guests.

Nothing about a static code is automated. It doesn’t rotate between guests, it doesn’t activate at check-in or expire at checkout, and if you change the code on the lock you must change it here too or guests will be given a code that doesn’t work.

That’s the trade: you get the guest portal without a supported lock, and you keep responsibility for the code itself.

Setting one up

Open the property, go to the Automation tab, and find the Guest Portal card. Enter the code that’s already programmed on the lock — 4 to 10 characters, using digits and the * and # keys, so keypad formats like 12*3456789 work as-is. Use Preview Portal to see exactly what a guest will see; previewing sends nothing to anyone.

For properties without a connected lock, GuestsKey doesn’t send the portal link automatically. Automatic delivery is triggered by a guest code activating on a lock, and that never happens here.

Two ways to get it to them:

  • Send it yourself — open the booking and use Resend Portal Link, by text, email, or both.
  • Put it in your own messaging — if you use OwnerRez, GuestsKey writes the link and the code into the custom fields {BXGKPORTAL} and {BXGKCODE}, so you can include them in your own pre-arrival templates and have them go out with your normal guest communication.

If you’re relying on a static code, the second option is worth setting up once. Otherwise every booking needs you to remember.

The code shows immediately

An automated guest code is hidden until it activates, so guests can’t see a code that won’t work yet. A static code has no such gate — it’s already live on your lock, so the portal shows it as soon as the guest opens the link.

What it costs

A property with a static door code and no connected lock is billed a flat $0.99 per property per month instead of a per-device rate. Connect a lock to that property later and the fee stops — it bills under the normal device pricing instead. A property is never charged both ways. See how pricing works.
