The Guest Portal

The guest portal is one link that shows a guest everything they need for their stay: their door code, your WiFi name and password, check-in instructions, house rules, directions, and your emergency contact. They open it in a browser — there’s no app and no login.

Turning it on

The guest portal is configured per property. Open a property, go to the Automation tab, and find the Guest Portal card. You can preview exactly what a guest will see from there; previewing sends nothing to anyone.

This is the part that surprises people, so it’s worth being precise.

For a property with a connected lock, the portal link is sent automatically — but it goes out when the guest’s code is confirmed on the lock, not when the booking is created. So the timing follows your code schedule rather than the reservation. Delivery also depends on the portal being enabled for that property and on your notification settings allowing guest messages.

If the portal is switched off for a property, guests still get their code the old way, as a plain message with no link.

For a property with no connected lock, GuestsKey doesn’t send the link on its own. See static door codes for how to get the link to those guests.

You can always send it yourself: open a booking and use Resend Portal Link, choosing text, email, or both.

When the code appears

If the guest’s code is scheduled but hasn’t activated yet, the portal deliberately withholds it and shows the guest when it will be available instead. That prevents someone arriving a day early with a code that won’t work yet and concluding it’s broken.

Once the code activates — by default 10 minutes before check-in — it appears. A static door code has no such delay and is visible as soon as the guest opens the link.

If you use OwnerRez

GuestsKey writes the portal link and the door code into OwnerRez custom fields, so you can drop them into your own OwnerRez message templates as {BXGKPORTAL} and {BXGKCODE}. That’s useful if you’d rather your pre-arrival email carry the link in your own wording.

Access window

A guest’s link stops working two hours after checkout. Cancelled bookings show a short cancelled notice with no code, WiFi, or address.
