If you run your listings on Hospitable and want door codes to program themselves, there are three ways to get a Hospitable smart lock integration working. One is built into Hospitable and depends on which plan you pay for. Two run through GuestsKey: one connects to your Hospitable account with OAuth on any plan, and one skips the Hospitable subscription entirely for Airbnb-only hosts. We host too, so this is the comparison we'd want to read before picking one.
GuestsKey is an official Hospitable partner. That doesn't make the built-in feature the wrong choice for everyone, and we'll say so below.
The three paths at a glance
A. Hospitable's built-in feature
Included on Professional and Mogul. Generates a unique code per stay and sends it to the guest before check-in. Device allowance depends on the plan.
B. GuestsKey on your Hospitable account
Works on any Hospitable plan. You authorize GuestsKey in Hospitable via OAuth; properties import and reservations sync automatically.
C. GuestsKey via Hospitable Connect
For Airbnb hosts with no Hospitable subscription. Free, Airbnb-only, one-time setup. Listings and reservations are pushed to GuestsKey.
Path A: Hospitable's built-in smart device feature
Hospitable's own smart device integration covers locks and thermostats, and it is plan-gated. According to Hospitable's pricing article, last updated July 1, 2026:
- Essentials ($0/mo) and Host ($29/mo): smart device integration is not included. You'd need to upgrade.
- Professional ($59/mo): included, with 2 devices per active property and $5 for each additional device.
- Mogul ($99/mo): included, with 4 devices per active property and $5 for each additional device.
- Legacy ($40/mo): devices at $5 per device.
The feature itself does the core job: it generates a unique door code for each stay, sends it to the guest before check-in, and the code expires at the end of the stay. It's built on Seam.
Hospitable publishes its own list of supported lock partners: August, Igloohome, Jervis, Nuki, Schlage, SmartThings, TT Lock, and Yale. Confirm your exact model on Hospitable's smart lock partners page rather than assuming a brand name is enough.
When this is the right answer. If you're already on Professional or Mogul, you have one Wi-Fi lock per listing from Hospitable's list, one listing per door, and you don't need cleaner codes, use the built-in feature. You're paying for the plan anyway, and adding another tool would be adding cost for no gain. The longer argument for when a dedicated layer earns its keep is in why GuestsKey over PMS-native lock automation. If your setup is that simple, you can skip it.
Path B: connect GuestsKey to your Hospitable account
This is the path for anyone with a Hospitable account whose setup doesn't fit the simple case above, or who is on a plan where the smart device feature isn't included.
The only requirement is a Hospitable account on any plan. You authorize GuestsKey from inside Hospitable using OAuth; there's no API key to copy and paste. The full walkthrough is in our connect Hospitable help article, but the shape of it is:
- Start GuestsKey onboarding and connect Hospitable.
- Authorize GuestsKey in Hospitable. Every property visible in your Hospitable dashboard imports.
- Map each property to its lock and turn on guest automation.
From then on, reservations sync automatically via webhooks. A new booking, a date change, or a cancellation flows through the same way, and GuestsKey updates or removes the code to match. You don't re-sync by hand.
The timing is worth knowing. By default the code activates 10 minutes before check-in and stops at checkout, with no grace period on either end. Both grace periods are configurable from 0 to 180 minutes per property, and everything is computed in the property's local timezone.
Path C: Hospitable Connect for Airbnb-only hosts
If you take Airbnb bookings and don't use a PMS at all, you don't need to buy a Hospitable subscription to automate codes. Hospitable Connect is a free, Airbnb-only channel that GuestsKey supports. It is a different thing from connecting a full Hospitable account: if you already pay for Hospitable, use Path B instead, because it syncs more.
Setup is a one-time step:
- In GuestsKey onboarding, choose Connect Airbnb.
- You're sent to Hospitable's authorization page. Sign in to Airbnb and approve.
- You're returned to GuestsKey. Listings and reservations are pushed over shortly after; give it a moment.
- Map each property to its lock and turn on automation.
Roughly the last month of reservations plus everything upcoming comes across on connection, so GuestsKey knows about your current guests without waiting for the next booking. From there, listings become properties, reservations become bookings, and codes are generated and scheduled like any other source.
Before you start Path C
- Use Chrome, Edge, or Firefox. Safari's tracking protection breaks the Hospitable-to-Airbnb sign-in handoff, and it fails part-way with no clear error.
- The authorization step expires after a few minutes. If you wander off and come back to a stale page, restart the step rather than trying to resume it.
- Airbnb doesn't always pass the guest's phone number. GuestsKey's default code is the last 4 digits of the booking phone; where the number is missing, switch that property to random codes so every booking still gets one.
- Guest emails are frequently absent on Airbnb bookings, which affects anything GuestsKey would send by email.
The longer walkthrough is in how to connect an Airbnb property to GuestsKey and the connect Airbnb for free help article.
Which path fits your plan
- Essentials or Host: the built-in feature isn't included on these plans. Path B works on any plan, so you can automate codes without upgrading.
- Professional or Mogul, simple setup: one Wi-Fi lock per listing from Hospitable's list, one listing per door, no cleaner codes. Use Path A.
- Professional or Mogul, anything else: shared doors across listings, more than one lock on a property, cleaner PINs. Use Path B.
- Airbnb only, no Hospitable subscription: Path C.
The lock side is the same either way
Whichever GuestsKey path you use, the lock connection doesn't change. Wi-Fi locks connect through Seam using the manufacturer's own account and a 2.4 GHz network, with no hub. Z-Wave locks connect through a SmartThings hub (v2, v3, or Aeotec). The model decides the path, not the brand: Schlage, Yale, Kwikset and August all make both kinds. After connecting, only locks that can be programmed with codes are listed. The current list is on our supported locks page.
Pricing is per connected lock and drops as you add locks:
Locks 11 through 30 bill at $3 (SmartThings) or $4 (Seam), and 31 and up at $2 or $3. Only the devices inside a tier get that tier's rate. The full breakdown, including thermostats and the static door code fee, is on our pricing page. Every account gets every feature.
What GuestsKey adds beyond the guest code
On both GuestsKey paths, the guest code is the start, not the whole product:
- One PIN across every lock on a property. A guest gets one code, and it's applied to every automated lock on that property. Shared-lock and multi-listing setups are supported.
- Cleaner PINs, account-wide. A cleaner's PIN is always-on across every lock in the account. Add a lock or a cleaner and it fans out automatically. Each cleaner gets a phone-friendly portal link by text; there's no app to install.
- Guest portal. One link with the door code, WiFi, check-in instructions and house rules. It goes out when the guest's code is confirmed on the lock, not when the booking is created, and it withholds the code until the code activates. The link stops working two hours after checkout.
- One-time keys for temporary access.
- Emergency backup codes, opt-in per property. Off by default. When on, a lock health check runs 15 minutes before check-in and a code check 5 minutes before; on failure the guest is emailed a backup code and you're notified.
- Stuck-code handling. If a code sits mid-update for more than about 15 minutes, or mid-removal for more than 30, GuestsKey flags it and watches for the manufacturer to confirm rather than resubmitting. One notification per incident, and no factory-resetting the lock.
None of this depends on which Hospitable plan you're on, or on having a Hospitable subscription at all.
